Pendant Lamp Astep Model 2065
The 1950s-designed suspension lamp highlights the innovative, experimental philosophy of the designer. During that era, glass was the preferred material in the lighting industry, but when the designer received early samples of methacrylate—a new polymer plastic stronger and lighter than glass—in 1949–50, his experiments birthed the Model 2065 suspension lamp. As with many of his designs, he continued refining its composition, dimensions, and color variations over subsequent years.
Model 2065 features a diffuser composed of two connected opalescent discs, suspended from the ceiling via a black-painted aluminum canopy. The simplicity of the designer’s elliptical silhouette and the lightweight materials create a fixture that appears almost weightless.
